Cmetrick is a puzzle consisting of 9 spheres arranged in a 3x3 square. By spinning rows and columns, the spheres colored faces get scrambled. The goal is to develop an algorithm for bringing the puzzle from any scrambled configuration to its 'Initial Configuration' (IC), in which all spheres are positioned in the same orientation. In the IC, the same color shows on top, right, left, front, back, and bottom of all spheres.

Wooden PuzzlesPuzzles made from wood have a totally different feel to those made from metal. They are 'warmer' and have fantastic tactile qualities. Some of my favourite puzzles are wooden one, indeed I originally had some made from plastic, and when I find them made from wood I buy those instead. Wood also has some properties that made it ideal for interlocking puzzles. There is a certain amount of friction between the pieces, which holds the puzzle together. Metal / plastic has to be so tight that it spoils the puzzle, or else it is so loose that the puzzle falls apart. Take a look at the catalogue to see some of my favourite wooden puzzles, particularly the puzzles of distinction and the collectors ranges. |
